Frequently asked questions.

We collect the questions we receive from our users and try to give the most complete information possible that can be useful for all other users.

What is...

bimspot offers the unique feature of assimilating all the data related to a given BIM model project into one platform.

This enables stakeholders to experience a holistic view on the project and a seamless deep dive into the point of interest.

Based on the intuitive filtering and navigation of any kind of building data, called Information Exploring, the most diverse questions on a project can be answered quicker than usual.

In short, bimspot transforms a two-week research and analysis of a problem into a one-click search.

Asset Information Requirements (AIR) definitions are one of the most important parts of the BIM process, defining the non-graphical data, information and documentation needed for the lifetime operation and management of a built asset.

A template of these information requirements is already predefined on bimspot. The values can be easily changed via download/upload to adapt them to the project specifics.

The models are checked directly against the requirements with each upload.

For the first time, filtering makes possible evaluation of all your model information independent of the software.

The filter allows you to access all of it via a simple search bar without even having to be familiar with the IFC structure. It lets you search for specific values or classifications in all the elements.

The search criteria can be combined, so that you can, for instance, filter all rooms which are publicly accessible and located in the ground floor.

Through this feature, bimspot shows you the desired elements: you can either view them in the viewer or perform any calculation with the values of the selected rooms using the KPI feature, if you are interested in a numerical evaluation.

For example, you can calculate and monitor the total net area so that you never lose sight of this value both graphically and numerically.

Read our guide about Data Filtering.

bimspot KPI dashboard is a simple visual display of the most important numbers of your project which you and your team members can monitor over the progression in order to achieve the project goals.

Four default KPIs are available from the beginning which you can customise and add as many KPIs as required by your project.

Requirement Fulfilment checks all models in real time for information requirements, thus giving you an overview of the current information status.

You can see the overall status of the project or by disciplines giving you a straight-forward indication of which information is not complete or is missing.

In a BIM project, planning is always done in several partial models; however, we always have to look at the whole building to understand the project.

With this feature, you can easily reproduce the model structure of your project on bimspot.

The basic structure includes Buildings and Building parts (IFC models) categorised into 3 disciplines as shown in the following table:

Abbreviation Discipline

ARC Architecture
STR Structural Engineer
MEP Mechanical, electrical and plumbing

Model checks ensure the geometrical accuracy of your models.

2 types of checks are available:

  • single model check where the basic geometric cleanliness of a specialised model is checked
  • clash detection, which ensures that the models are free of collisions between disciplines.

This way, errors can be detected early on, in the planning phase, and high error costs are avoided while execution.

All checks start with just two clicks on the menu, while the check itself is completely automated by bimspot.

The Model Viewer allows you to view the federated model directly in the browser.

All building parts are merged and displayed in 3D in the viewer.

bimspot’s Model Viewer features an intuitive user interface and unique filter functions to provide a focused view, yet without losing the context of the entire building.

In addition, all the element information is instantly accessible with one click on the desired element.

Product

To upload a new version of your model to the desired building part, re-upload the new file and all your data will be automatically updated (KPIs, filters, Requirement Fulfilment).

We support IFC 2×3 and IFC 4.1 files.

We recommend sticking to one particular version in a given project for the sake of consistency.

There is no restriction on project size or amount of IFC files.

Currently, there is a 1.5GB upload limit for ifczip and ifc per file.

Yes, model check rulesets are customisable. You can upload your own ruleset within Model Check.

In the check reports, you can also find a detailed list of all rules used in bimspot’s model checks.

No, you can’t modify them directly on bimspot.

You can edit, remove and even create new fields in order to customise the Information Requirements to your project’s needs and then re-upload the file.

A federated model provides a holistic understanding of a building by unifying all the stakeholders’ models into one.
Our offering combines, in a unique way, all data related to the building models into one BIM project.

Each version has a different IFC schema, and those differences can affect the performances of the platform.

Keep using the IFC version which is chosen during the project creation for consistency.

If you are not sure which version has to be used, you can always check it in your Project settings.

Zero point is the global origin point of your model, generally defined for the IFCSite.

At the first upload, we set it to 0 to avoid any potential model positioning issues.

You can edit it in your Project settings if needed, but make sure to always use the same value in all your models.
